About Sashka Co.

Sashka Co. features glass beaded bracelets that are handcrafted by artisans in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. When you are purchasing from Sashka Co. some of the proceeds goes to helping Nepalese rise about poverty through fair trade. Each bracelet is handmade with skill, passion, and with some of the world’s finest glass and sterling silver beads.

What is Fair Trade?

“Fair Trade enables sustainable development and community empowerment by cultivating a more equitable global trade model that benefits farmers, workers, consumers, industry and the earth.”

I received this lovely beaded bracelet which is mostly purple – my favorite color. There are also gold and green/blue beads which look lovely together. The color combination makes me think of hummingbirds – my favorite bird species. If Sashka Co. was to give their bracelets names, Hummingbird would definitely fit this bracelet. The blue/green beads are like hummingbird feathers in that they change from blue to green in differing light.

While Sashka Co. bracelets are not elastic they are “one size fits all” they easily roll over your hand. They are very easy to clean, mild soap, water, and a wash cloth – no jewelry cleaner required! They do seem to stretch over time, but there is a simply solution to that problem. Wings (Acrostic)

Wearily little sparks of life flutter

Into the great abyss – chasing away

Nightmare’s frozen

Grasp on our dreams –

Shattering fear.

If you’re wondering how the above poem relates to hummingbirds I’ll tell you. 🙂 Hummingbirds represent joy and lifting up negativity. Which, in my opinion, is a great theme for this bracelet. Sashka Co. is like a hummingbird, lifting up Nepal from poverty.
